The pinnacle of human civilization has come and gone, leaving only ruins in its wake. Society and science now struggle to rebuild, rediscovering scraps of knowledge from powerful ancient artifacts that defy comprehension. These relics of the “Old World” can make the fortunes of those who find them—if ancient security systems and rogue bioweapons don’t kill the relic hunters first.
Akira, a young street orphan, sets out to become one such hunter to escape his brutal life in the slums. Untrained, malnourished, and poorly armed, Akira would be lucky to make it back from the ruins alive—until an encounter with Alpha, a mysterious, ghostly woman, changes his fate forever. Alpha needs a hunter, and she’s willing to train Akira to get one. Will her support be enough to help a penniless kid from the slums climb to the top of a crushing and merciless world?

Vol. 4 please 🙂
The LN so soft not as brutal and bar bar like WN, that why i give up the LN, i wish the WN update because the story lot better compare LN
From what LN volume should I start reading to continue the story after finishing the WN?
=========SPOILERS ALERT==========
LN are rewritten compared to WN version. Manga adaptation follows LN story so you can check it out there. Serious deviation starts from ‘pickpocket girl’ incident IMHO (LN Volume 2 Part 2 Ch. 67 Despair). And starting from this point it’s a completly new beast. There were also meaningfull alterings in ‘Undeground robbers’ arc prior and way before that too. Mainly around Katsuya & Yumina. Author incenced rivalry and animosity between Katsuya and Akira way way earlier in the story than in WN. Meanwhile Yumina got much more play in the story: becaming a bridge between Katsuya group and Akira and much more likable personage altogether to the point where you can actually start shipping her and Akira, even through it’s never destined to be.
Vol. 3 Part 2 please 🙂
Idk why, but I think the author is pulling punches on LN a bit.
In the WN, Akira never got his wallet back and it caused problem because Viola created a rumor about it to get him and Sheryil’s Clan attacked. So, he is forced to go and kill the thief, Lucia, which was one of the reasons of Katsuya grudge on him. On top of that, in WN, Katsuya never knew Sheryl had connections to Akira until quite later, which shock him a lot. All these events build up to their duel in which Akira ended up beheading Katsuya in the WN, and then some underworld people stole Katsuya’s corpse for their research. (Maybe they will clone him or something?)
The LN had a lot of these events softened. Akira got his wallet back and the thief, Lucia even got accepted in Sheryl Clan, which means he wont kill her and earn Katsuya’s grudge. And Katsuya ended up knowing Sheryl and Akira had some of connection, though Akira ended up playing to make it as if he only sell stuff to Sheryl. So, he would be less shocked to know that Sheryl had a sort of relationship with Akira. And to top it all, Akira ended up sparing Katsuya in their duel on vol 6.2. Bruhh : (
I’m so glad they changed that in the light novella. It made me drop the web back in the day. Just a ridiculous chase and killing little girl pickpocket and even spending millions (!) to achieve his goal.
This girl isn’t even a villain. Before he forgave quietly when Shiori tried to kill him, but here he’s offended by a pickpocket? That’s too petty for the MC.
Also there was no suggestion of such a development. On the contrary, there was information that she wanted to quit stealing and join Sheryl’s “good” gang. So you’re already subconsciously expecting her to redeem herself somehow by working for Sheryl after the quarrel.
I think the Light novel makes more sense. Reading the web novel, honestly I was so confused on akira being so fixated on killing her when he’s shown to be someone who easily moves passed things like with Erio and sheryl. Especially if doing so would bring more harm than good. He’s willing to abandon sheryl if it’s not worth it but with this random pickpocket who no longer poses a threat to him, his reputation was recovered after the relic shop incident, and he doesn’t even kill the other two pick pockets that he catches after her so he’s not holding on to his slum kid mindset anymore.
it just seems to out of character and forced for him to risk his life, multiple times and even spending tens of millions of dollars in the process for nothing. No personal satisfaction, no character growth, no financial gain.
And the author has akira blow up on katsuya asking why he’s protecting her so the whole time I’m just screaming “why the hell are you trying to kill her??” 😭😭 honestly made me drop the story cause i just couldn’t take it
It’s pretty rare for a novel to be set in a post apocalyptic world. Akira is a pretty realistically portrait guy from the slums, however he is the same low libido teenager like so many others. The author tries to explain it with after seeing Alpha no real girl can’t compare with her so real life girls just don’t turn him on, meanwhile he is collecting at least a little harem. *Sigh* that’s not how libido works…
Of course Alpha has her own goals, she’s an AI from the old world and Akira is one of the few people who can see her. So she choses to save him and train him since she has no physical body but needs someone who is able to physically reach a certain heavily guarded part of the old ruins.
The world setting is nothing new for the genre but it is really well done. Political powers roam in the background far above Akira’s level but the stronger he gets the more glimpses he catches how the world operates.
Akira is no OP protagonist, he is constantly on the verge of dying in battle and many foes are way stronger and unbeatable even with Alpha’s help (at least for now). The fighting scenes using all kinds of guns, liquid knives and wearing power suits, mechs and even on motorbikes are well written.
This certainly is one of my favorite current LN’s.
Thak you so much 4 this

Most amazing Ln period. No overpower mc. Great character development.
Pretty good! The world building is very great. But the gang making was kinda meh. Well, I dont really like Sheryl but since her illustration is next to the protagonist she will mostlikely become important for the story later on or something.
Also, the cover kinda unfit the series. The title “World Rebuilding” makes you think it would be a kingdom management, but it’s actually a story about ruin exploration, maybe it’s how the story develops later, but I dunno. And it might have been better if the cover is the protagonist sneaking behind a wolf monster to shoot it, that would fit the story better but we all know how japan LNs are, it’s all about having waifus on the cover.
