This was a nice surprise and a rather fresh take on the alchemy profession. Alchemy is “cooking” potions from medical herbs with magic. To do so the alchemist needs magical energy (mana). The more mana an alchemist has the more they can brew. So far so good. But what does that mean? It means that alchemists are actually very powerful wizards and with body strenghtening magic can also be really tough fighters.
I was very surprised when our dainty, small and fragile FMC turned more or less into the most powerful fighter with both magic and swords when the need arose.
Also Sarasa was not timid at all. Gutting a monster and poking out the innards – no problem. Bartering sales? Better not try to scam her… this sweet girl is able to do a 180 in the blink of an eye and turn into your worst enemy…
A real fun read!
I already liked the Anime (nothing super new or great but enjoyable enough) so I was positively surprised to see this release.
The biggest + this novel gets is that there are no useless romantic interests destroying the fmc just by existing. And she herself also has no interest yet since she concentrates on her dream of being a top Alchemist instead of becoming someones breading sow.
The first novel mostly introduces characters places and mechanics of the world and is overall pretty chill. But it also shows that the world they live in is not just fun and rainbows.
If I had to make a critique it´s that Sarasa tends to repeat some stuff a bit to much from time to time.
No idea where the shoujo ai tag comes from but a slice of life story it definitely is. No world ending prophesys no demon invasions or other stupid crap just Sarasa trying to make it as an Alchemist out in the sticks.
If you just want a rather enjoyable story and are sick of virginal wannabe heroes this should be a good idea to try.
