The Ephemeral Scenes of Setsuna’s Journey

A THIRD CHANCE AT LIFE After being summoned to another world as the 68th hero in order to protect the world from monsters, Setsuna Sugimoto is abandoned because of his weak and sickly constitution and waits for his inevitable death. But when he meets Kyle, the former 23rd hero, he is given another chance at life and inherits Kyle’s vast knowledge, power, and life force. Having finally gained the freedom to travel the world, Setsuna embarks on a journey as an adventurer, where he’ll encounter all walks of life, meet new people, and say good-bye to others—each one bound to leave their mark on him and the world.

  • 6,3 out of 10, actual rating. (Vol 1)

Decent enough writing, non-airhead/dense MC who has some realistic-ish behavior.
Clearly also quite high-powered, but needing to actually get experience.

Weirdly enough, the first sidekick the MC picks up did not turn out to be a girl/love interest.
The world itself might be okay, the “starting” kingdom is decent, apart from the royal court being absolute shitheads.

All in all, a good read.

  • It got the same illustrator as The Great Cleric.

Just the illustrator and not the author though. Still, I can’t help but find the atmosphere kinda similar, even the pacing as it (which is slow) is similar with the Great Cleric. I have finished reading volume 1 and I gotta say that nothing big had happened so far that can make me invested. Even the demi-human kid part was not that entertaining either (which is supposed to be the focus, given the title of the volume).

Pretty mid to me, so far, dunno if I’ll continue reading it.

  • So…. how was this novel? anyone?

    • i’m about 80-90% in and it’s kinda mid to me. the premise is mildy interesting at the start in terms of how he got his powers, but it quickly becomes cliche. MC is kind and but secretly OP, has a rough life (weak body) but was surround but kind ppl, putting in effort trying/learning how to live in the new world. But with the back story and powers the author gave him, i feel like they will likely become

But with the back story and powers the author gave him, i feel like they will likely become a massive plot armour that can help him solve any problems. which already bores me a bit. Anyway, it’s pretty slow pace, and generally easy enough to go through. it’s just not particularly exciting to read, and feels more like a slice of life so far.

  • What could be better than another Isekai? A double-Isekai of course!
