Sabikui Bisco

In the days that followed the end of the world, few could have predicted the Rust Wind, a phenomenon that swept across Japan like a plague, choking the life from the land and its people and corroding flesh into brittle, iron sand. No one knows how the Rust began, but one mushroom-wielding renegade known as Bisco Akaboshi, the Man-Eating Redcap, is determined to bring about its end. He’s the latest in a long line of Mushroom Keepers, and together with the dashing young doctor Milo Nekoyanagi, the two will brave the horrors and wonders of the Iron Desert in search of the Rust-Eater: a mythical mushroom rumored to have the ability to cure the ailment once and for all.

  • The contents in this story are without doubt, griping enough to keep you reading for hours on end, all while longing for the next volume or release.
It has almost no demerit to speak of but-unfortunately, ‘almost’ is a very significant keyword here as this one thing: The ruddish, ‘kansai’ manner, constant transliteration and localization of bisco’s speaking, becomes too unbearable to follow along.
Tolerating someone saying ‘ass’ ‘shit!’ and seeing a thousand exclamation marks before anything really even starts can only go so far: I sincerely detest dropping anything I start but I must draw the line somewhere.
To put things more bluntly: Bisco -and Bisco alone- talks in a style not unlike a ‘zoomer’ and, anyone who can stomach that, go on straight ahead. You’ll like this.
-All this without mentioning how the story tackles its antagonists and trials in a fashion so wholly archetypically ‘shounen’ that it’s just sad.
    It’s just sad.

  • Man vol 1 was good, now just waiting for vol 2
