I really liked this latest volume (17) — the last two, actually (16 and 17).
16 was kind of the conclustion of the arc.
And (no spoilers) but while the first half of Vol 17 is like a typical volume, the last half of it pretty much reveals everything about the world setting they live in. Everything.
Unlike other stories that have grown tired and weary as they wear on, I’ve still really enjoyed Genjitsu — mostly because while a lot of the stuff can be seen elsewhere in other novels, the author DOES go out of his way (and talks about it) to make certain things different. I think it took a lot of balls to not just drop hints, but explain the entire world setting in Vol 18.
To each his/her own I guess, but honestly, this is one of the few that I still find interesting.
Other long-running titles that I have liked (Cooking with Wild Game, Seirei Gensouki, etc) have started to kind become the same after a while. Yet there’s always enough thoughtful stuff (and occasional thing you absolutely do not expect) with the author consciously trying to be a bit different, that I still enjoy this.
There are many other titles I don’t read anymore because (to me) they got boring. Some after many volumes, others after just a few (even if their initial volumes were interesting). But Genjitsu (to me, anyway) isn’t one of them. It’s one of the few I still very much look forward to — surprising even me, since it’s gone on for so long.
I guess 2 more vol is more than enough for this series to a good end, one in confrontation with fuuga and maybe another vol in reconciliation and aftermath. Welp this vol(17) is average, have high expectations with next vol
Is the next volume(18) will be the last book? I hope so.. its getting boring nowadays, i want to see the ending
Well, this is just my opinion… I think it takes 2-3 volumes more for ending?
Yeah… for me, its getting boring after Fuuga introduced. No more mystery about the world, or demon race. All about rivalry between MC and Fuuga. And one thing, helping the enemy in the name of humanity? No such thing in geo-politic. The only thing that matters is “national interest”. Didn’t he say he was a realist? But lately he seems like an idealist.

But this volume ruined the novel. No, not just this volume but since Fuuga was introduced. If you notice, you’ll find that Souma has helped fuuga so much, even though he knew that he would come back to bite him in the a*s.
Spoiler Alert
Giving medical equipment, medical training to the enemy, letting his sister stay in the kingdom and letting her provide information about the kingdom without restriction, letting him grow without keeping him in check, etc. I like the idea of someone who can stand toe to toe with MC, but its too forced. Does helping your potential enemy again and again like giving grains and food supplies make sense? Does giving medical technology to the enemy which will be used against people of your own kingdom make sense?
When someone tries to assassinate Fuuga, Souma shows his support to Fuuga publicly and says those who tried to assassin him are doing terro*i*m, but when Fuuga assassinates so many innocent leaders of Union of Eastern Nations, Souma stays quite. Its like the author keeps giving stupid reasons as to why Fuuga should be left alone. He had many chances to nip him in the bud, but he did not, its like Fuuga has more plot armour than the MC. Ridiculous novel, and a wastage of time. Gave me a headache and a lot of stress. The starting volumes were good, but after that its a long road downhill. Not really a hater of harem, but in voulme 16, it pushed the limits. Wonder if the novel survived because ppl reading this are dumbos who cant see the plot holes or just mor*ns who can ignore the faults to this extent. Dropping this trash of a world building novel where the MC has no ambitions at all. This is more of a dumb slice of life story than a REALISTIC one. He has more than 4 chidren right now and is continuing, even when he knows that the kingdom was in a ruined state before because the previous to previous king had many heirs and so the heirs ended up killing each other and ruined the country in the process of claiming the throne. Oh but we’ll just ignore that wont we. Realist Hero, the title should be more like “NAIVE AND PATHETIC IDIOT OF A PERSON WHO IS DUMB ENOUGH TO HELP HIS ENEMIES AND JUSTIFY THOSE DUMB ACTIONS WITH SOME TWISTED LOGIC”.
Sorry for ranting, but it was much needed. This novel does not deserve to have such a high rating.
I stopped reading early on, around the time the author started the anti-racist virtue signalling, and I really don’t like these pokemon like harems. What’s up with Japanese authors and harems? It’s like they’re some kind of virgin teenagers completely disconnected from reality.
If you don’t like it, just go away. 0_ 0 This is a fantasy story, so it’s fiction. The author can write whatever they want to write. lol If you want a different world, go write your own work and publish it. Plus this is far from virtue signaling. If this was one of those types of stories, the mc wouldn’t be male. Plus some other things would be very different. o_ 0 And like you mentioned this is a harem, it wouldn’t be that genre either. XD
There’s no story that is perfect. Anyone who thinks that, isn’t living in reality. lol Plus you ever heard keep your friends close and your enemies closer. And don’t start complaining about it being a harem. It’s listed on the genre tag. Whenever someone says, i’m not a hater of harem genre, then they go but they actually are one. I’ve seen this time and time again on other site comment sections. If you don’t like that genre, at least admit so. And like i tell others, it’s best to look at the genre tag before you pick up and read something. Because most likely you won’t be able to look past your bias in doing an actual fair review on something. Also want to add he’s having kids, because he is setting up a system that they won’t be fighting for power later on. Most likely the kids will be weighted thru, then an air chosen. Then the others will be married off to other countries nobles. Which will solve a lot of those issues. Especially if you set them up early on.

I hope the story picks up the pace. Last volume didn’t cover much of a time frame at all. I want to see new tech / plans implemented in the same volume not 3 or 4 volumes later.
I think all the websites gets their LN from the same source or one dude pays and uploads to the his/her site then others gets from him/her. Because if i can fine X book as premium i can find from anywhere at the same time. They upload really similar times but if i cant find from Y site, i cant find anywhere.

I really like this site because you guys allowing us to able to access LNs free. Because i dont understand how you guys getting those books i have to say something. In JNC some of the premium books are only for extra drawings and stuff. Like in bookworm. There is no need for premium because they release extra stories with normal version however, some of the books are different like this one. Premium versions have extra stories which are important for the stories. It would be nice to have premium rather than normal version of those books. NOT all but some.

I think V10 and V11 were the more slice-of-life stuff, but V12 it picks up really well. That being said, V13? ^_^
up till vol 9 it was interesting, but after this it became a bunch of uninteresting slice of life stories. In a world full of conflict and intrigue you would expect way more than half the entire volume of intermissions and side stories of no importance to the overral scenario…
what about the demon realm? what about the politiking of the church, the other states? what about conlficts of interest of smaler tribes?
to be honest, it would have been better to simply change POV to Fuuga, or even Julius.
